European markets close lower on Tuesday
European stock markets fell at the close of trading on Tuesday, November 19, as investors around the world monitored rising geopolitical tensions between Russia and western Ukraine.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 index fell 2.18 points, or 0.43%, to 500.66 points at the end of trading, its lowest level in more than three months.
Most sectors declined, with banking stocks down 1.42% and travel down 1%, while the healthcare sector rose 0.57%.
The German DAX index also closed down 128.03 points, or 0.67%, to 19,061.16 points.
The British FTSE 100 index fell 10.30 points, or 0.13%, to close at 8,099.02 points.
The French CAC 40 index fell 48.59 points, or 0.67%, at the close to 7,229.64 points.
Global markets shifted to safe havens during Tuesday's trading, as events in Russia raised concerns around the world. The Kremlin said on Tuesday that it had lowered the threshold for using nuclear weapons after the United States allowed Ukraine to use long-range weapons to strike inside Russia.
