European Stock Markets Close Higher
European stock markets closed Tuesday, April 1, with a collective gain as global investors prepared for US tariffs scheduled to take effect on Wednesday.
The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 5.74 points, or 1.08%, to close at 539.66, paring gains slightly after the Washington Post reported that White House aides had drafted a proposal to impose tariffs of approximately 20% on most US imports.
The German DAX index closed the session up 370.84 points, or 1.67%, to 22,534.33.
The British FTSE 100 index rose 51.99 points, or 0.61%, to close at 8,634.80.
Meanwhile, the French CAC 40 index rose by 85.65 points, or 1.10%, to close at 7,876.36 points.
