European stock markets close mixed
European stock markets closed mixed on Tuesday, January 14, as global investors assessed the lower-than-expected US Producer Price Index reading for December.
The European Stoxx 600 index fell 0.40 points, or 0.08%, to 508.28 points at the end of trading.
While the German DAX index closed the session up 138.48 points, or 0.69%, to 20,271.33 points.
The British FTSE 100 index fell 22.65 points, or 0.28%, at the close to 8,201.54 points.
The French CAC 40 index rose 15.03 points, or 0.20%, at the close to 7,423.67 points.
Oil and gas stocks were among the worst performing sectors on Tuesday, down 0.73%, after oil giant BP said its fourth-quarter earnings would take a hit of up to $300 million on weak refining margins, according to CNBC. Retail stocks also fell into negative territory, with British sportswear retailer JD Sports falling after it cut its earnings forecast.
