European stocks close higher on Wednesday

European stock markets closed higher on Wednesday, December 11, as traders digested corporate updates and the latest U.S. inflation data.

The pan-European Stoxx 600 index rose 1.68 points, or 0.32%, to 529.17 at the close, after breaking an eight-session winning streak on Tuesday. Media stocks led gains on Wednesday, up 1.4%, while retail stocks fell 1.7%.

Germany’s DAX index closed up 70 points, or 0.34%, at 20,399.16.

UK’s FTSE 100 index rose 21.26 points, or 0.26%, to close at 8,301.62.

France's CAC 40 index rose 28.62 points, or 0.39%, to close at 7,423.40.

Spanish clothing giant Inditex led the sector lower, ending the session down 6.5%, after the Zara owner published its interim results for the nine months and a quarter. The company said its revenues between November 1 and December 9 jumped 9% compared to the same period last year on a constant currency basis.
