Officially: Trump Trump as President of the United States of America.
Former President Donald Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in a victory that grants him a second term in the White House after a historic election cycle filled with unprecedented events and two assassination attempts.
This news was confirmed moments ago by Speaker of the U.S. House, Mike Johnson, who announced Trump as the winner of the U.S. presidential race.
Trump will be the first president to serve two non-consecutive terms since Grover Cleveland in 1892 and only the second in American history to achieve this. He secured 277 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 needed for a direct win in the presidential election, while Harris received 226 votes.
Trump was first elected president in 2016 after defeating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In 2020, he lost his re-election bid to President Biden amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, but returned to seek the White House in 2024 after a nearly two-year campaign, pledging to "Make America Great Again" once more.
Re-Election Campaign Announcement and Focus on Biden-Harris Administration’s Failures
Trump announced his campaign for re-election on November 15, 2022, just days after the midterm elections. His second campaign highlighted his previous record and sharply criticized the failures of the Biden-Harris administration, pointing to the administration’s responsibility for rising inflation rates and the worsening U.S. border crisis.
Trump faced multiple contenders in the Republican primary but easily secured the party’s nomination after overcoming all his opponents, who ultimately expressed their support for him to become the 47th President of the United States, winning all the primaries.
