Trump authorizes 90-day pause on US tariffs
US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday, April 9, that he has authorized a 90-day pause on the recently announced US tariffs.
Trump added that the pause applies to both reciprocal tariffs and the 10% tariff across the board, noting that the suspension of tariffs is effective immediately.
Trump stated that he has decided to raise tariffs on imports from China to 125%, and that this increase will take effect immediately.
This comes after the so-called reciprocal or counter-tariffs took effect after midnight on Wednesday on dozens of countries, just days after the implementation of 10% tariffs on several countries, which Donald Trump announced last Wednesday, April 2.
Trump's tariff increase on China comes after China raised tariffs on imports from the United States to 84% in response to the 104% US tariffs that took effect on Wednesday, amid escalating trade tensions between the two sides.
