Trump: I ask OPEC to lower oil prices
US President Donald Trump has renewed his demand for OPEC to lower oil prices, indicating that this will lead to stopping the war in Ukraine.
Trump said, "I asked Saudi Arabia and OPEC countries to lower oil prices, and they have not done so yet, and this is what surprised me, actually, they have not lowered the prices, if they lowered the prices the war in Ukraine will end quickly."
He reiterated while landing in North Carolina to inspect the damage from the storm, "One way to stop the war in Ukraine is for OPEC to lower the price of oil, and that will automatically stop the tragedy that is happening in Ukraine."
The OPEC+ group has not yet responded to Trump's call to lower oil prices, while delegates from the group indicated that there is already a plan to start increasing production starting in April.
Trump said on Thursday that he would ask Saudi Arabia and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to lower oil prices, a call he has made repeatedly during his first term.
Saudi Economy Minister Faisal Al-Ibrahim said during a seminar at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Friday that the position of Saudi Arabia and OPEC is the stability of the oil market in the long term, when asked about Trump's statements.
