US stocks rise as fresh inflation data awaited this week
US stocks rose during trading on Tuesday, December 10, on Wall Street, as traders digested the end-of-year rally while awaiting the release of new US inflation data due this week.
The S&P 500 rose 0.2%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 35 points, or about 0.08%. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.4%.
Oracle shares fell more than 7% after the database software company reported fiscal second-quarter results that missed Wall Street estimates. The stock has surged more than 65% this year.
This comes after major indexes fell during Monday’s session. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite fell about 0.6%, retreating from new record highs as shares of Nvidia fell.
Investors are now awaiting the U.S. consumer price index report, which is due out on Wednesday and could influence how the Federal Reserve handles interest rates at its meeting on Dec. 17-18.
Economists surveyed by Dow Jones forecast headline inflation to come in at 0.3% in November on a monthly basis and 2.7% on a yearly basis.
